For the first lesson, we will explore the strenghts, weaknesses and gaps in the knowledge of the student to set out some goals and find the right resources. I have a a lot of experience using various tutor books both aimed at children and adults, and can help you find the right one to work through together.
I have an extensive knowledge of exam board requirements (ABRSM, Trinity) and can prepare students for all elements of these exams (sight-reading, aural skills, scales) should they wish to take one.
If desired, we can focus more on music theory depending on the goals/priorities of the student.
As well as focusing on learning to read sheet music, I like to broaden students' perspectives and get creative with playing with and without sheet music, including improvisation, to expand their idea of what it means to be a musician, as I believe that listening skills and music theory are critical to the development of musicians.
Whether you want to rekindle an old passion or learn a totally new skill, I can work with you to acheive your goals. Contact me today to schedule your first lesson!
