Primary Science Tutoring:
I offer a structured, engaging approach to help young learners develop a solid foundation in scientific concepts. My lessons are fun, interactive, and tailored to individual learning levels to make sure that every student grasps the fundamental principles (and enjoys the learning process!).
My degree is in Biological Sciences and with honours in Physiology and Pharmacology.
Lesson Plan Structure:
1. Introduction (10 minutes): We’ll start by reviewing what we covered in the previous lesson, to refresh important ideas and get ready for the new topic.
2. Concept Breakdown (15 minutes): In this section I will use visual aids and some simple thought experiments based in intriguing (and sometimes funny) real-world examples that introduce new scientific concepts in an entertaining way.
3. Learning Activities (15 minutes): Next, we will take part in activities and quizzes that reinforce what we’ve just learned, making the lessons more of a learning game.
4. Discussion and Q&A (10 minutes): In this section I will encourage students to ask questions and discuss what they've learned to really solidify their understanding.
5. Recap and Homework (10 minutes): Finally, we will summarise the lesson together and assign ability-appropriate homework or projects to reinforce learning (if this is desired as part of the lessons).
Conversational English Tutoring for Foreign Language Students
In addition to science tutoring, I offer structured conversational English sessions to help in improving language fluency and confidence. My approach emphasises practical communication skills and real-life conversation practice.
Or we can just have a chat if you would prefer to practice on your own terms!
Proposed Session Structure:
1. Warm-Up Conversation (20 minutes): We'll start with a casual chat to make things comfortable and ease into the session.
2. Topic Discussion (20 minutes): In this section we will run through some casual conversations on various topics relevant to your interests and language level, focusing on vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation.
3. Interactive Exercises (10 minutes): Here we'll use role-playing/scenario-based exercises to improve your practical language use - for example, I might ask you to order a train ticket from myself while I act as a disgruntled Network Rail Operator.
4. Feedback and Reflection (10 minutes): Finally, we will quickly recap on the session to go over your language use, highlighting strengths and areas for improvement.
Follow-Up Feedback: After each session I can give you detailed feedback covering pronunciation, vocabulary usage, and grammar. This feedback will help you to help track your progress and focus on areas needing improvement - and I will only provide it if desired!
Experience:
I've always enjoyed helping others learn, starting with tutoring students in the year below me during my first year of sixth form. Since then, I've developed strong communication and organisational skills through my work in Relationship Management and Clinical Reporting.
I'm passionate about helping students reach their goals through engaging tutoring (and conversation!). I'm also flexible with scheduling, so we can find times that work across different time zones. I look forward to supporting you on your English-speaking journey!
