I have 2.5 years of experience in the tutoring industry, working with a range of tutees. I like to find out what you enjoy doing to help guide the lessons, as it is easier to learn a language when it is something that interests you. Using immersion is key to learning a language, which I learnt on my own journeys to learning languages. Because I have also been learning Japanese for the past 3 years, I have many techniques that I can share with my students.
The content of my lessons will be structured to exactly what you want from learning English, whether it is speaking, writing, listening, reading or thinking. Furthermore, your goal will influence what we do. If you are looking to practice your business English, we would focus on roleplay situations. However if you wanted to learn more conversational English, we would spend more time looking at how that differs from textbook English.
On top of my previous tutoring experience, I spent a semester as an English teacher for the Languages Society at my university. This allowed me to teach Business English to a small class of 3 people. In doing so I learnt how to become a good tutor, what areas can be difficult and how to better structure my lessons for students to enjoy. I largely used PowerPoints and documents to run my sessions, communicating using only English so as to increase confidence when talking. Finally, a year ago I was awarded my Teaching English as a Foreign Language 120 hour qualification, which has given me the required skills to deliver lessons accurately about English.
