HOUSE PARENT AND ACTIVITY COORDINATOR • BELL LANGUAGE SCHOOL • SPRING 2022
I lived and worked residentially as an activity leader and house parent for 4 weeks for Bell English language school easter camp. My role here was to create and lead activities to immerse international students aged 11-18 to help them learn English. I created, planned, and led activities such as netball sessions, dance workshops, badminton, and dragons’ den in the day. I then organized discos, pop idol, bin bag fashion show and quizzes in the evening. I also took a role in leading and coordinating excursions of up to 50 students which included trips to London. As a house parent for the children, I would have to be on call at night for any issues and help them maintain their welfare and good mental health. Finally, I helped with administration by assisting the manager in admin tasks.
MUSICAL THEATRE TEACHER • FOOTLIGHTS • SEPTEMBER 2021-DECEMBER 2021
I worked for the Christmas term here teaching musical theatre to children ages 4-6. I would plan lessons every week leading to the Christmas show in which I created the script and choreographed the dances for.
MUSICAL THEATRE TEACHER • LSC • SUMMER 2021
Through the summer of 2021 I taught children for 2 months drama and performing arts at LSC summer camps. Each week I had to create a performance for the parents to watch at the awards ceremony. My weekly themes for shows which I created included Matilda, School of Rock, Mamma Mia, Gymnastic and dance displays, and High School Musical! Some days I would have up to 30 Children. We would also have a weekly talent show in which I coordinated.
Volunteer dance teacher-
At the beginning of 2021 I volunteered at a High School in Manchester running a six-week musical theatre club where we worked towards a small showcase in the summer. Each week I led around ten children with a session that I had planned, which involved me choreographing a dance, and directing scenes from the musical “Everybody’s talking about Jamie.”
House drama director
Every year my high school held a house drama competition, and each house produced a play. I was the captain for my house and lead my team to victory. This has been one of my biggest achievements as in the space of 5 months I had to cast, stage, choreograph and organize the set and lights for a performance. This was one of my proudest moments because, through the process, I saw children gain confidence, try new skills, make new friends and be part of an experience they will never forget! As well as this, I also choreographed my annual school production. I held dance auditions and choreographed 4 dances independently. I chose to do this role as I felt it was a new, challenging task that would push me as a dancer to be creative as well as challenge myself as a director. During the process I showed resilience and dedication by stepping in at the last minute as director when there was a shortage in staff and support.
