Hello!

I studied History & Hispanic Studies at the University of Sheffield, graduating with Distinction in Spoken Spanish and Spoken Portuguese. Following this, I trained to teach and gained a PGCE in Modern Foreign Languages. I have been teaching Spanish ever since to students at GCSE and A level.

I spent a period of time living in Asturias in Northern Spain, during which I taught nursery and primary school children, as well as tutoring adults. Therefore, I am lucky enough to have experience teaching all ages and abilities.

Although I teach Spanish at the moment I am also fully-qualified to teach the History curriculum to all ages. I have experience working in the Heritage sector and have enjoyed roles as Educational Officer within museums. I continue to enjoy volunteering in the sector- I often say that languages are my skill and history my hobby, though I can honestly say I am very passionate about both subjects!

My approach to tutoring is quite simple. Research shows that we learn best when we are intrinsically motivated to do so. I don't want tutoring to be something that you feel is an obligation or some sort of punishment for not doing well enough in other studies. Learning should always be enjoyable.

I therefore focus on creating a relaxed environment and teach to build your confidence using topics that interest you as an individual. For many people, the most interesting aspect of languages is the culture. Others prefer learning through looking at songs or literature. Some people like to learn about History by discussing films or media. Whatever you prefer, I can be flexible and will source authentic material to set objectives and help you to progress.

I work with tutees to think about an 'end goal.' We discuss what you want to achieve and how we can get there, to make sure that we are always able to reflect on progress and to make sessions meaningful.

I gained Qualified Teacher Status following my PGCE with the National School of Education and Teaching (NSET). I have since been working in secondary schools in Yorkshire, where I continue to enjoy developing within my role as a teacher. I complete regular safeguarding training and am fully DBS checked. I have experience teaching/ marking to all the major exam boards.
