I always found sitting in classrooms and learning by textbooks really difficult so I want to make my lessons more interactive and interesting. By incorporating 'games' into my power-points and making useful mind-maps and flashcards, I want students to enjoy my lessons whilst also learning hard. In addition to this, I will incorporate subject content into writing letters, articles, professional emails etc so that students are set up for the future and have the skills needed. At GCSE, I studied a range of texts from Power and Conflict poetry to modern plays such as An Inspector Calls and 19th Century novels such as A Christmas Carol, and using my own revision methods I managed to achieve a Grade 7 in English Language and a Grade 8 in English Literature. For KS3 students, I will focus more on the language side of the subject than literature making sure that they are set up for the texts that they will be learning. Covering literature and creative writing content is important but I also strive to teach students relevant and helpful revision techniques to ensure that they are prepared for their exams as well as going through past paper exam questions and helping them in their essay writing. I understand how hard it can be with the stress of exams especially in subjects that students find more challenging and I believe that confidence is key when finally sitting the paper. I believe my lessons will motivate students and provide them with a new enjoyment for studying English and help them achieve the best grade possible.
