My teaching methods for those in primary school will revolve around open discussions with what they are struggling with, activities around spelling, sentence structure and punctuation.
At high school level before Year 9 will begin with open discussions to identify areas of difficulty then tailoring the teaching methods to fit the learner, due to the GCSE specifications of English Language being on creative writing and poetry any homework from school can be brought to the session and can be approached collaboratively to ensure the additional support I offer is relevant to current assignments and desired skill level expected within school.
For GCSE level students again begins with open discussions to identify areas of difficulty and how they learn best to give the best support. Due to the curriculum of both English Language and English Literature any text the student is learning on school can be brought to the session and practice questions can be worked on collaboratively to build confidence and understanding of text analysis and how to structure academic answers.
My preferred method of online teaching is through Zoom or Teams depending on the learner's preference, lessons typically last an hour with webcam active and screensharing of Micorsoft programmes such as Word and PowerPoint. Students can bring what they would like to focus on, be it specific text that they are studying in school or specific skills like spelling, punctuation or writing styles for assignment based work such as various academic writing requirements.
Any files needed will be shared via email when required and sessions must be booked a week in advance with a brief outlining of areas of focus.
