I would like to provide unique lessons to pupils in order to best prepare them for any class tests or exams they may have coming up. National 5 and Higher exams can be daunting. Therefore, I want to help pupils gain familiarity with the exam structure. From my own experience, I am aware that History as a subject requires a lot of memorisation which can be repetitive and at times boring, but I would like to share my tips and tricks for studying that will ease some of the nerves and worries pupils may have whilst trying to make it an enjoyable experience.
A rough example of a first lesson with me would follow this structure; recap of what you have been taught in the classroom (to get me up to speed with where you are in the curriculum), a discussion about the content (is there anything you are excelling in or struggling with), exam skills focus (in which I would provide example questions and answers that we would work together on to ensure you understand what is required), independent student practice (I will ask you to do a short task to confirm you understand the content and how to answer exam questions), recap of lesson (next steps moving forward and any tips or suggestions I can provide for revision). It is likely that I will give you some extra practice questions or tasks to work on before our next lesson, provided that you do not have too much homework already given by your school teachers, as I believe it is key to have balance between school work and your personal life.
From there I can adjust my structure if needed and aim to incorporate some more interesting activities into the exam skills focus and independent practice to make studying more enjoyable whilst still being academically stimulating and beneficial.
