When working with students, I therefore like my sessions to be as discussion-heavy and active as possible. I really want my students to get hands-on with language, to play with it and to make mistakes they can learn from.
I like to use cue cards and conversation starters to stir discussions and debates, and I aim to use as many open questions as possible so my students can focus on developing their listening and speaking skills.
But I also make time for reading and writing- it's vital that students develop their abilities in all 4 areas. Writing tasks can be completed as homework or via whiteboards and shared screens during sessions.
Feedback is key to development and I aim to provide time and space for constructive feedback and students' own self-reflection. It's important to flag errors in grammar and tone, and then to drill these changes so students can ensure they become embedded.
