The first lesson will allow me to get a grasp of your ability and your learning style. From there, I can adjust my teaching style to suit your needs. This will most likely include powerpoints, writing and comprehension tasks, memorisation of quotes (if needed) and the occasional homework to help strengthen your skills.
The content will vary depending on age and ability- this can include phonetics and spelling, or more advanced content such as analysing texts in-detail and writing responses to these texts. As an English student, I am well aware of what exam boards are looking for and how you can score the highest marks- I'm also good at creating 'cheats' for memorising quotes or other things that may be needed in exams.
I have prior experience working for Kip McGrath, and as such I have experience working with people of all ages. This means that I will not belittle you or treat you as less than me during our lessons- I know it can be daunting to have extra lessons and I know how teachers act as if they are better than the students. I want my lessons to be a relaxed, friendly space where you can feel safe and confident enough to learn efficiently.
I also approach teaching in a constructive way- any issues or mistakes will not be used negatively, but instead as a learning experience for us to come to the conclusion of how the mistakes can be improved or refined. This is something we will do together, and I will not just talk at you- in order for you to progress and flourish, I'll make sure that you are fully involved at all times.
