I do not translate any word during the class. This is the best way to allow the students to make an effort to learn the language.
I explain the meaning with drawings / diagrams / scenarios improvisations / pictures.
I get the students involved in the class all the time by telling stories, talking about their day, and sharing ideas.
I use games in French that make the class enjoyable. I use some TV Shows to show the real life of the French society.
Mostly of my students end up singing in French.
I believe that learning while having fun is very effective.
