If it is a completely new student then I will teach in accordance to the specification and try get through it as much as I can so the student fully understands it. If its a student who is currently doing the subject, then I will ask them what are their weaker parts of the topics or ask them of things they want to be retaught. If the student is unsure of these weaknesses in their learning then I could give them a test to do which would expose them and let us both know what aspects we can both work on for their benefit. I think its important to focus on these weaknesses till there are none or little weaknesses leaving the student full of confidence in preparation of their exams. I will teach the topic while interacting with the student asking if they understand what is being taught or for questions that they may have. Then I would move on to doing a few example questions whilst increasing the difficulty on each question till the student is confident on doing some of these questions on their own. Then I will give the student more of these questions and then exam questions from their exam board. Whilst the student is doing these questions I will be available whenever the student needs me. As far as answers go for questions, I like for the student to give me their answer and if it is incorrect, rather than give them the answer I can tell the student to try again and point out where they went wrong and then they can work from there to get the correct answer. Obviously if this takes the student a bit too long I can input and show the student how to do it but then I will set a similar question again and see if they can do that question on their own.
