My teaching method revolves around collaboration with the student. A holistic approach is what I have always found to be the most effective when teaching a student, communicating and in some instances assessing what areas they need to work on is the most efficient and productive method, as it avoids needlessly recapping areas that the student is already very competent in.

Additionally, my teaching style is very personal. I always try to be on first-name terms with my students as I believe this breaks down the barriers that can prohibit students from enjoying the subject they are learning about. History is a very enjoyable subject when it is taught well, but in my experience, poorly taught history can destroy a student's passion for the subject forever. It is incredibly important to me that students leave my tutelage with a greater passion for the subject than they had when they came in. Passion and enjoyment make learning so much easier, as students are far less likely to procrastinate their studies and are far more likely to voluntarily take it in.

History is such an important subject because it allows us to learn from our mistakes and create a better future. History is also a really fun subject, which is always an awful thing to hear from someone who teaches it, but it's really true. It can sometimes seem not real, the stories they tell of crusades and exploration and revolution, but the fact that not only is it true, but your ancestors experiences history. I think that idea is so cool because it means everyone can feel a part of history.
