Hi all,
My aim as a tutor is to meet the needs, expectations, and targets of learners who choose to work with me.
I would describe my approach as being attentive, flexible, patient and structured.
In my past I had struggled in education and what I have learned most from past educators is how not to teach.
This has helped me form empathy for learners and it is my duty to see where you are coming from, meet you at the level you're at, and see how we can improve upon your skills in manageable ways.
Challenges are key to learning but I do think retaining more from a lesson is more important than getting through as much material as possible.
At the same time, if someone learns at a different pace, I can accommodate.
I work as a mental health counsellor, so I am used to structuring one to one meetings, that involve handing information and keeping logs of progress.
I have also created and taught poetry groups with learners who have various intellectual and social challenges.
I am used to meeting learners and clients at their level. For me, the pacing and variety of how we learn in our lessons is also key.
I am happy to hear feedback, so if something is not working we can change aspects of the approach.
The format will depend on your level upon our first meeting. It is important to evaluate your level and we'll make the structure together.
