I teach in an engaging style combining consolidation of specific knowledge as well as refining exam technique. Normally, I complement my teaching with powerpoints so the content of the lessons become easier to remember. I will continually test students on the specific evidence that has come up in lessons in order to ensure that evidence is at hand in exams. Once I feel a student has grasped the specific evidence, I guide them on how best to utilise that evidence in an exam situation. As well as powerpoints, in the past I have provided students with helpful videos as well as homemade flashcards to help with their independent learning. Moreover, I combine specific knowledge with broader contextual knowledge to make sure the student always sees the big picture. For instance I will often refer to prior and subsequent events to a topic so students can develop a more nuanced understanding.
When it comes to exam technique, I will go through essay plans and provide detailed feedback to any work students give me. Due to differing exam boards, I make sure that my teaching methods, particularly when it comes to exam technique, is in line with their teachers'. I see my role as a tutor as being an intermediary between the teacher and the student- helping students better grasp what their teacher is teaching them- rather than contradicting the teacher. Outside of the tutoring sessions , I am always happy to give feedback on pieces of writing and I am available via email for any specific questions. Through my lessons, students get the extra support to thrive in their exams.
