I teach engaging, interactive lessons focusing on a balanced understanding of all aspects of the Japanese language, from pronunciation to grammar and writing.
I try to blend language acquisition with cultural understanding, as many aspects of languages in general are intrinsically tied to the history and culture of the countries said languages belong to, and excluding culture from language learning can make for a quite confusing experience. Having graduated with a Master's Degree in East Asian Studies, I not only tie in aspects of the Japanese language to Japanese culture and history, but also to East-Asian history (and even world history, when necessary) at large.
I structure and adapt my lessons according to the student's pacing and needs, always providing visual aid in the form of PowerPoint presentations, short video material, and so on. I am knowledgeable about many different aspects of Japanese culture, both old and new, so anyone interested in pop culture (manga, video games, anime, music - my master's thesis tackled challenges in the translation of Japanese rock music lyrics into English) would be a great fit for me :)
