I taught English in a secondary school in Chaohu, China in the year 2021. Building on that experience, I also worked as language teacher in the English Conversation Classes organised by Trinity College Dublin. The classes are made for refugees in Ireland who have no prior experience learning the English language. The amount of exposure to a diverse range of cultures involved in that role means that I must be acutely interculturally competent, in order to communicate and build a healthy and mutually beneficial relationship with my students, which is exactly what I am. I believe in the value of student-centered classroom and I always make sure the agency and autonomy of students are not only respected but also maximised in my classes.
