Currently in my third year at University, I regularly present to small groups and participate in collaborative teaching sessions. Prior to my time at University, I was a leader in a Girl Guiding troop for five years, and gained much experience working with young people of many ages. Much of my time there was dedicated to planning activities and teaching skills, including guided reading for small groups. Throughout my GCSE’s, I regularly led study workshops for my classmates. I would describe my teaching style as focused but fun. I am very enthusiastic, particularly around books of any kind, and am always encouraging people - including myself - to be open to all of the possibilities of a great story.
I am a dedicated and hardworking student, and hold myself to a high standard. Yet I am aware of my position also on the other side of the table, still being taught by my professors. I aspire to be a university lecturer one day, and am enjoying gaining experience among my peers and students of other ages.
I believe that I will bring a positive note to each teaching environment that I am invited into. The most important step is to establish a friendly environment where everyone can thrive. I hope that my students will be able to feel supported, and know that their anxieties are not the end of the world in their academic journey. At every opportunity, I wish to provide that reassurance. Hard work is paramount, but not at the expense of your well-being, and this is something that I intend to maintain.
At heart, this is the goal I am driven by: to find enjoyment in even the bleakest and most repetitive of stories.
