Hannah Straw

Bonjour! I’m Hannah, and I am an undergraduate languages student and tutor for GCSE and A level French. I am a student at the University of St Andrews currently studying at Sorbonne Université in Paris on my year abroad.

I took my own A level French just 2 years ago in 2022, so I am still very familiar with what it is like to be in school tackling the exams, and I have lots of tips and tricks to help you get the best results you can! Most importantly, I would also love to help you develop a genuine understanding and appreciation of the language and culture. Through my own experience learning languages from scratch, it is always helpful to be able to take languages out of the classroom, and learn them through talking about and exploring your own interests.

I have the most experience and knowledge of the AQA specification for GCSE and A-level French, as this is the exam board that my own school used. I am more than happy to adapt lessons to cover any other specifications you are taking, as exam board specific practice is very important to make sure you're well practiced for your exams in the summer. We’ll focus on a good grounding in vocabulary, (as this is the foundation for being able to express yourself!) as well as lots of conversation practice, some essential grammar and translation skills, and finally some exam practice focusing on past papers. I’m really looking forward to getting started!
