So you’ve decided to spend more time developing yourself as an artist… amazing! My lessons begin looking at exactly why you have decided to choose this path, the things that are important to you that you want to address in your art, and previous creations to create a good base point. We’ll discuss previous works you’ve completed (if you have) and have a good chat about what your likes and dislikes are to create a good picture of how we should move forward with developing your work. From then we can look in to trying different materials, methodologies and I will give you some up and coming contemporary artists to look at for inspiration. I will also give advice on how to build your online platform if that is something you’re wanting, creating an online portfolio for potential exhibition applications and “branding” yourself via social media channels to get your work seen by an audience and potential galleries. I will also share information on art opportunities (no gatekeeping here!). Overall I want the sessions to be as relaxed and easy going as possible but always with a goal in sight, I will set “homework” but it is generally just to keep experimenting with what we’ve discussed in the sessions. I also really appreciate a students own personal vision and I would never ever try and dictate what artwork a student can create, and during my sessions I always aim to have a supportive and positive space (because the world already has its negativities, we don’t need them here!).
