Lessons are tailor made to work with individual students. Time is taken to get to know the student and what they like and don’t like. Confidence is built through engaging with each student to find out how they work and this is then used to encourage them to have a go at more complex tasks and/or questions.
A range of activities are used including exam questions based on the specific exam board, worked examples, find the mistake and games.
Different techniques are used to help support students and can include use of colour, consistent use of processes to show working out and development of calculator skills.
My experience includes teaching maths and geography to a range of learners, from those on the grade 3/4 boundary up to grade 9 students. I have taught and tutored students with special educational needs including dyslexia, dyscalculia, anxiety and autism.
I have tutored GCSE maths and geography to a range of individual students both online and in person. Online, I have used Google Meet as a platform to discuss ideas and share screen where necessary. This is alongside another web based piece of software, such as Miro, where questions and workings can be collaborated on, giving instant feedback and suggestions on how to approach different types of activities. Notes made are accessible to the students so that they can refer back to them at a later date if required.
In person, I am able to bring a variety of resources to the student to enable them to access work and develop their understanding of the content. Different techniques can be used to take note and revise previous learning.
I am passionate about supporting the individual and their needs, working with them and their families to ensure that they get the most out of each session. I hope that they will enjoy sessions and feel that they are valued and listened to and have a say in how they learn.
