Generally in the first couple of lessons I will ask lots of questions to get a sense of three things:
- How you learn
- What you struggle with currently
- What you would like to achieve through our lessons
For essay and analysis based subjects, I like us to work through prompts together to help you develop confidence addressing prompts under time pressure. Sometimes I will ask you to come to a lesson with some writing or notes prepared so we can look at what you're doing well, and areas where you need a bit of growth. In my past experience, this doesn't have to be scary, and is one of the most effective ways to improve your writing.
If there is a particular area of history you can't quite wrap your head around, I'm happy to offer some lessons in a "crash course" format, where we work through the key features and implications of historical events.
When exams roll around, I can offer lessons dedicated to working through practice exams or exam questions to help you get more comfortable with the format.
We can also discuss effective note-taking and memorisation strategies so you can produce dates and quotes in a flash when you sit down for that big test!
