I like to use a variety of ways to keep lessons engaging, all of which depend on the student I am working with - most of which will be student led and somewhat discussion based. I keep tasks different and focus on recall tasks for quotes and key information for Literature texts. For essays I have flexible structures and patterns that students can follow but can adapt, so as not to smother their own creative ideas. I have a keen focus on structuring essays and working within time constraints, filtering key ideas into 'golden threads' to support expression in writing. I am very experienced in putting together revision plans and schedules for students to follow and I always like to feedback with students regarding their own schoolwork- I like to work alongside their existing teacher and curriculum but spend our time building and developing areas of misconception or development. For Language, the paper which students often find challenging, I have a range of texts to provide practice and a well structured sequence for approaching each question with confidence. For students aiming for grade 8-9, I encourage wider and broader reading including some texts from A-Level and university courses and encourage students to engage with texts through critical lenses and perspectives. Through my own work with grade 9 students I have a range of example essays and responses from a range of questions. Generally, I tend to work with a range of mediums, powerpoint, games where possible, flashcards/spider diagrams and images/illustrations as references.
