We will begin the lesson like I begin most days as an illustrator. With the sketchbook. Depending on where the student is at, skill wise, we will start at basic theory or jump into the fun of it. I paint and draw in a way that comes instinctively to me so lessons will have a big focus on drawing quick, less focus on accurate representation of life and figures and more on abstracting shapes and tones from subjects to create a story. Through playing with materials such as gouache, pencil crayon, water soluble crayons, wax crayons, pens and more as well as using techniques like sponging and scratching and cutting I will show you how to create a piece that is layered with emotion, intuition and that beautiful thing that is TEXTURE. Hopefully by the end you will feel bolder and more excited to use lots of materials to layer up your illustrations and create more work that feels more intrinsically YOU
