As a PhD level theoretical physicist, I have deep knowledge and understanding of mathematics which I can use to create exciting, visually stimulating and completely understandable artefacts that deliver the key concepts.
Although I have no formal teaching experience in schools, I have conducted tutorials and delivered lectures in University settings. I have also coached my own children and step-children through GCSE and A level. I have had several weeks experience in schools, including teaching classes alone and under observation when I was considering changing my career path towards teaching. My ideas on education are drawn from these experiences and I am very familiar with the syllabus for maths at GCSE and A level.
My approach to teaching does depend on the age and abilities of the student or students. My aim always is to uncover the gaps or uncertainties in their knowledge and understanding and to help them fill or consolidate those areas. The teaching approach should be tuned to the unique individual, but I believe strongly in the use of visual aids and well understood analogies in building understanding and confidence.
I am very familiar with the technologies involved in online meetings and presentations, having worked in IT from home for many years conducting major sales presentations to customers. I am aware of the differences between that and teaching, whether children or young adults, but I believe my understanding of young people derived mainly from my own children will allow me to bridge that and deliver great lessons online.
