I began to learn the piano at the age of three. Since graduating from the Royal Academy of Music in London, I have begun pursuing a master's degree in piano performance. As a piano teacher I like to be guided by my students' musical goals and create bespoke plans to help each student achieve what they want and learn the music they want, whilst getting a solid, contextualised, and applied grounding in music theory and history. My lessons begin with a quick discussion about issues raised during the previous week's practice, before diving into the pieces and answering any specific questions the student may have. At the end of the lesson I assign technical exercises to address issues I notice during the lesson, and then answer any further questions. I always wrap up with a summary of the main teaching points and with the student, formulate a plan for personal practice and set goals for the next lesson.
I have extensive experience preparing for both ABRSM and Trinity exam syllabi, at all levels, and am very happy to prepare students for exams should they so wish. That being said, I don't teach to the exam syllabi as standard and if the student does not want to take exams I choose a more personalised repertoire for them to learn. I can also include aural skills and ear training in my lessons if requested, and I also offer music theory tutoring and help with preparing for GCSE and A-Level performance exams. .
