My initial lesson will involve students doing some basic exercises so I can understand the level they are initially working at. I will then ask what grade they desire to achieve and provide new exercises each session to work on their weaknesses, as well as enhance their strengths. I use a number of materials, from curriculum books to external resources that provide additional practice. I prefer to work with my students rather than just speaking at them, so that they know this is a journey for us both and not just another chore for them to do. I’m very enthusiastic and prefer to incorporate different activities into learning so that lessons can be fun and students are encouraged to work harder as it is more enjoyable for them. I believe it is important to also acknowledge children’s state of mind and how monotonous work can sometimes repel them from wanting to work at all. I also like to develop a good relationship with parents so that they are aware of what their children are learning and exactly how they can help further at home. My past students managed to increase their grades by 2 levels by the end of our sessions, through these methods. I have lots of experience working with young people, as I have younger siblings and volunteered in nursery. I also now have a year experience in tutoring english at various ages and even spent a month, this year, teaching English in a local school in Ghana.
