I tailor my lessons around the needs of my students. I aim at offering guidance and help, and to find the way of teaching that best suits the needs of the person in front of me. I generally start by assessing my students' needs and their goals before devising my courses. I think it is extremely important, as you don't learn French the same way if you are preparing for you A levels, or preparing for a long holiday in France.
I usually work with documents taken from national newspapers, or from pop culture, in order to make my classes both engaging and fun. It is not unusual for me to work wih videos or songs, as long as they are relevant to the subjet I am teaching. I also do love working with recent books or book excerpts, and to engage my most advance students in exercices of creative writing. When I work one to one, I do my best to incorporate my students' interests in my lessons. It doesn't matter if you are overly fond of submarines or of medieval theatre, I will find a way.
My teaching style is quite dynamic, and I always try to find the right balance between giving room to my students so they would express themselves and thus use what they have learnt, and in-depth exploration of French vocabulary and grammar.
Finally, I can move locally around Cambridge and Trumpington, and meet my students in cafés or wherever is most convinient for them.
