I am an experienced College professor of Mathematics, with over 20 years of experience teaching at Spanish and American universities. I have taught all mathematical subjects, ranging from Calculus to Probability Theory. Currently, I am a professor at the University of Southern California, where I have been for 9 years. Over the years, I have systematically got excellent evaluations from my students.
In my lessons, I explain the material in a motivated way (historically or otherwise), I go over different relevant examples, striving to connect the new concepts/ideas to some previous topic or to Physics. I stress the geometric interpretation behind the computations (for ex., almost every concept in Calculus can be explained visually). After that, the student works on similar examples by himself, while I guide him/her through the process, giving hints, etc. This strategy has proven to be very effective. The student ends up having a better idea of the subject as a whole and is able to solve new problems by framing them in terms of the learned concepts.
Mathematics is not a bunch of computational recipes, it is a conceptual edifice!
