Having volunteered as a beaver and brownie leader throughout my time in sixth form before moving on to tutor French for a semester at university I feel I have good experience working with all ages from all walks of life. As a keen language learner myself, I would love to pass on the knowledge of speaking another language as it unlocks so many doors and experiences when travelling, making new friends and finding employment. Through my lessons I will aim to focus not only on learning the language but on teaching students about culture as I find that this encourages enthusiasm and makes language learning seem more important in the real world. For example, I will recommend to students films, books and music that they will enjoy to expose them to the language in a native setting. Furthermore learning about the political environment of the country and its history will be something I will aim to focus on. Learning a language is difficult and so it is so important to make it fun and interactive as well as making it seem useful and not simply a grade on a piece of paper. As a Liverpool native I think I would be a great tutor for English as a foreign language as Liverpool is known not only for its rich culture but also for it’s diversity and its desire to bring people of other countries into its arms. I can’t wait to meet students and learn from them as much as I hope they will learn from me.
