After having spent a weekend in Scotland on a peer educator weekend- in which I have developed the skills to deliver an informative yet interesting lesson- I have used this experience to tutor other students. As a result, I have taught lessons that not only increase the student’s subject knowledge, but also increase their confidence, which is important due to the stress and pressure of being in an exam hall. In order for the teaching methods to be effective, I will change the dynamics of each lesson to suit the individual pupil, for example ensuring that all learning styles are catered for. Every academic journey is different and every student has different strengths and weaknesses that are not catered for in a classroom setting. Whether you prefer written powerpoint presentations, visual aids or interactive tasks, I will discover a dynamic that helps each student not only know the material, but understand it. Therefore, the exam that currently seems like a daunting, far away task will seem like an easy obstacle to overcome. I am available to teach Foundation or Higher GCSE Maths and will break down what can seem like an intimidating subject into small and manageable sub topics. By highlighting the student’s strengths and weaknesses within the subject, each lesson will be catered to their needs, with common opportunities to refresh their general subject knowledge using past GCSE papers. Using a range of methods depending on topic, I will break down a ‘complicated’ exam question into a few steps that are easy to follow. No matter what the student’s starting point, I will ensure that they walk into that exam hall feeling confident, and walk out with an outstanding result.
