I have been a primary school teacher for 7 years, with my subject specialism being MFL.
I learned French and Spanish all the way up until university and absolutely love learning new languages.
I strongly believe that in order to first start learning a new language and get engaged, the lessons have to be interactive and exciting. It's more than using worksheets and copying words, I like to incorporate games and cooking into my lessons as well.
Depending on what you want to focus on specifically, I can tailor the lesson to suit the learner. We can start with the basics or work more on conversational language and sentence structure.
Lessons would start with an assessment of sorts to identify areas that we need to work on and content will be taught using the four different skills required to be confident in a language - listening, speaking, reading and writing. Of course, all children are better at some skills than others, so if we need to work on one skill a little more than that's completely fine, it's all part of learning!
I think the most important thing I encourage my children to accept is that making mistakes is perfectly okay! That's how we learn. My 'classroom' is a safe space where we can learn together and mistakes are welcome (they are one of the best learning tools, in my opinion)
Last but not least, my classroom is somewhere where children can be themselves and have fun! I make lessons fun so children learn, as no child ever learns from people they don't like.
