I have a range of tutoring experience over the last several years, tutoring ages from 5-18 both in school and privately.

Before a series of tutoring sessions, I hold an introductory session with the student (and/or their parents) to get an understanding of their goals and expectations, from there we agree a plan for how many sessions they would like, the frequency of their sessions and the approach we will take.

Generally, sessions either model a 1-2-1 lesson or a deep dive into a topic area or exam question which is causing difficulty. In a 1-2-1 lesson, topic requested are provided by the student in the introductory session so that the lesson can be planned in advance, allowing them to gain a deeper understanding and receive answers to questions in a way which suits their style of learning as fully as possible. In topic deep dive sessions, the student can request to go through any problematic topic or question style at the start of the session, we will then work through the issues they’re having with it at their own pace to improve their confidence and resolve any issues.

I am always open to feedback during the course of my tutoring session and will always be happy to modify my approach to work to the best possible outcome for my students.

I also believe that there is no exact way that something has to be learned, and biology should be enjoyable. Through receiving 1-2-1 tuition where a student is given the opportunity to learn in a way they like there is no reason they can’t excel in the subject.
