I aim to create a comfortable learning environment for students to thrive in through endorsing questions and the opportunity to make mistakes. As a younger tutor, i believe that establishing a communicative, comfortable, and safe environment of learning and self-expression is highly important. My previous experience involves working with primary school children in English and Maths, as well as helping a lovely teenage girl with autism develop her English language and literature skills. I have been told that certain children prefer working with somebody of a younger age (i am 18) as i can come across as less intimidating than perhaps somebody that they view as having higher authority, thus encouraging additional creativity in shyer students. I understand the importance of a strong and trusting relationship between the student and teacher. Personally, i think that the respect that i had for my teachers at school was a primary reason for my success within the subject, as i was able to take on board their advice and criticisms with a strong level of understanding.
I achieved an A* in my English Literature A-Level, as well as 60/60 in my coursework essay. In GCSE, i received a 9 in both English Language and Literature. I also wrote an A grade EPQ on the strengths and adversities of modern day feminism. Having covered A level and GCSE topics very recently, i am extremely familiar with the core texts, and understand what is required to succeed in assessments.
I am currently studying English and Comparative Literature at the University of Leeds, and am enjoying further developing my skillset. I have particularly enjoyed learning new approaches to the texts that i studied at A-Level, which extend my knowledge beyond the curriculum and would give students the skills to stand out against their peers.
