I have been tutoring children in english for about 3 years at primary school, 11+ and GCSE level and recently this summer was in South Africa teaching children english as a language. Due to my English literature A level and general affinity for reading I am very familiar with many texts and ideologies you may be studying or struggling with. I will read through texts and extracts with you and together we will try to decify the subtext and meaning behind certain grammatical and linguistic choices the writer has used. After picking these features out I will most likely ask you to write a small essay and together we will go through it and I can help you improve the fluidity, structure and eloquence of your writing, ensuring that all the specification points are met; all the literary features are picked out and the themes explained and recognised. Equally, if preferred I can just talk through your required literature with you where we can discuss the themes and ideas found in the piece and the devices the writer uses to exemplify them.
If it is not literature you are struggling with but more the language and grammar I can also help you with this. I would initially ask you what you would like to focus on and from there I can devise a plan for the future that would help you. Content may include flashcards, worksheets, quizzes and games.
Similarly, due to my experience in South Africa I amwell equipped to help those who English is not their native language and are looking to improve their oral speaking skills. The lessons would be mostly conversational work to improve your fluidity and language but also flashcards and vocab to increase your english vocabulary.
