I tend to gauge the ability of my student in the first lesson by mostly giving them a some questions I've prepared beforehand. Then once I've figured that out, I would use that to design a teaching methodology that is most suited for them. I can use a range of teaching methods depending on the student. However, the one thing that remains constant no matter who I teach is that I want to be able to push my students beyond their limits; because I have realized that the best way to remember what has been taught is to make mistakes and learn from them.
