I start by going through the homework.

Then I introduce an idea, go through an interactive lecture, and then an example. Following that, I get the students to do examples, and then repeat the process with a similar but more advanced idea.

My lessons are very relaxed. Students should feel comfortable with me at all times and shouldn't dread their maths sessions. They definitely shouldn't be afraid to make mistakes.

I build students understanding of maths from the very basics. There is no point in me teaching complex algebra if they don't even know their timestables. I set short regular homework to keep everything fresh and then combine simple ideas to understudent complex concepts. Given enough time, I aim for students to enter an exam knowing how to find a solution to any question rather than just having memorised a bunch of methods that may not even be relevant. I also want them to work to the level slightly above what is required, so the exam becomes easy.

At A-Level, I specialise in Pure Mathematics and Mechanics. I am more than happy to help with those but will not lie and pretend I can teach A-Level Statistics to a good standard. I never got on with Statistics when I did my A-Levels and didn't do a lot of it at university.

Other than that I am more than happy to take on students age 11 and up. I have had numerous adult learners as well who need their qualifications to pass courses and all of them have passed first time.
