Being the head girl and the house prefect of a boarding house, I wanted to help students by tutoring them at the boarding house every week for a year. Even though I was the one who taught the students and helped them with their work, I myself had learnt a lot from this experience. When a student would tell me their thought process for answering a particular question, I realised that different people learn in different ways, and it is important to establish a blended approach to learning so that all students can understand what they are being taught. At the same time, I had learnt the importance of being patient and friendly when teaching students, which made them feel comfortable asking any questions that they had. Therefore, I believe that it is important to offer students a variety of different methods of learning topics to enable them to understand what they are learning much better. For instance, I will be forming PowerPoint presentations, quizzes, tests, textbook teaching, going through exam style questions, and forming projects where students would have to research topics that have been taught and present it back to consolidate their understanding.
