I have taught ESOL in classes as cover tutor over 5 years and then as ESOL tutor for over a year in a prison education setting. Through this I have understood the barriers ESOL have, the difficulties they have in getting what they need. I can build positive and motivating relationships with students. I have taught the criteria for Gateway and City & Guilds. I teach English through life skill topics e.g. Community, health, shopping, budgeting, sports and leisure, weather, the environment/recycling and games. Learning is done through discussion, interactive tasks, worksheets, music/songs, visual resources and realia. Reading and Writing, grammar, simple and compound sentences, tenses, articles etc. Speaking and listening tasks e.g. role play making appointment, asking questions to get information l, know where to find something or give instructions. I can differentiate and individualise lessons. Student feedback is important as well as tutor feedback to my students. Learners may request to learn something specific too, perhaps something they are struggling with or need to practice more. I love teaching ESOL and engaging with my students and like the lessons to be fun. I use Teams or Zoom, camera and audio for my online lessons.
I hope you will learn English online with me!
