I am a recent graduate from the University of Cambridge with a Double Starred First in History, with past experience in tutoring and mentoring, and with great communication and leaderships skills thanks to my involvement in theatrical productions whilst juggling my degree at University.

The key to a good historian is someone who knows how to read effectively, and how to think critically and creatively. These are the fundamental skills I prioritise in tutoring, as once students have these under your belt, they have all the ingredients to continue improving on their own and know how to work and learn independently! I believe in a teaching style that puts the student's needs and learning methods first, as well as a compassionate, patient and perseverant approach through obstacles the student might face. This might mean trying out alternative sources, explaining something in a different way, or going back to basics so we can take our time to make sure those foundations of knowledge are set. Most of all, however, it means working to inspire the student and get them excited about what we're learning about- once they have this interest, working at what they're struggling with will become a lot easier!

My past experience in mentoring, tutoring and leadership roles has also equipped me with time management, organisational, communication and people skills. I have worked with the public as a volunteer in a museum, was History Rep at my college at Cambridge, and was Co-Chair of History Society at my Sixth Form. I thus understand the importance of tailoring your knowledge to suit the specific needs of your audience. My specific tutoring experience has also provided me with invaluable skills of lesson planning, adapting what materials we used to what the student was most interested in, and giving constructive criticism.
