If the student was more advanced, more challenging vocabulary would be the focus and more complex sentences. This would include reading texts with more variety.
Lessons would be conducted on a PowerPoint, with images to help visualise the meanings of the vocabulary, as well as the use of bold fonts to clearly show the key phrases/words that we would be focusing on.
I have worked in a school with students who have either autism or ADHD. Over this period, I assisted those who struggled reading confidently and together, we would work out the meaning of a specific word, if unsure.
I have spent time over the years learning French and Spanish at school, as well as learning Portuguese at home. Therefore, I understand the struggles when attempting to learn a new language. However, this could be used as a motivational technique and I strongly believe that with my help and knowledge, I could improve the English speaking skills of many.
The key thing to remember is that learning a new language just like anything, is a marathon, not a sprint.
