I am a recent First class Maths graduate at the University of Warwick. Moreover, I received three A* grades during my A-levels in Maths, Further Maths, and Physics.
During my GCSEs, I initially disliked Maths and did not perform well. To me, it was presented as an esoteric subject with the goal of learning miscellaneous formulas and concepts of no apparent use. It was only when I met a great tutor that my perspective changed, and I became obsessed with the subject ever since.
Therefore, I am able to teach students of all skill levels, from those who are struggling to pass to those who already have a passion for the subject and desire to get into top universities such as Oxbridge. I have completed over 60 STEP papers and many MAT papers and have gone through the interview process at Cambridge, so I can be of great assistance in these matters.
In my first lesson, I will determine the student's skill level and relationship with Maths, as well as their current goals. From there, it will largely depend on the student, but some key things I will likely do include providing challenging problems—Maths is not a spectator sport! It is the best way to learn without question. When teaching a topic, I will do so with a university-style approach, showing where a formula came from through proofs, both algebraic and visual.
Overall, my aim will be to help you start thinking like a mathematician.
