One of the major things that I like to do with a student is to make him/her recognize the fact that he/she is there to learn. As with any problem, they can only be solved when they are recognised as problems.
Learning is a form of submission and subordination, which entails the student being obedient and progressive. That behaviour and mindset makes him/her believe that my teacher knows what I do not know. Hence, the student, very easily, starts learning quickly and effectively. A major factor in the ignorance of this era is this self-obsessive behaviour, where we have forgotten the process of learning. This is also something that we should work on together.
Another key component is listening, as it is a crucial part of learning.
Understanding the students' perspective is absolutely necessary, as they could be shy to admit their mistake or they could even feel uncomfortable.
Making them feel at ease is a warming technique that drastically improves performance and decreases anxiety, a major problem in this era.
Other than that, teaching Islamic theology, Arabic, Jurisprudence, and the Qur'an could also be part of the package.
I hope we can build a knowledgeable, patient, tolerant, and loving world together. Indeed, all disputes, anger, war, rage, and conflict rise from ignorance.
Regards,
Fuzail Mohammad.
