My name is Freya and I am a medical student at the University of Cambridge, having just completed my first year with a First Class grade and being about to start my second. Last year I completed A-Levels in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and History, in which I was awarded 4 A* grades, and two years previously I received 10 grade 9s, as well as an A in FSMQ Additional Maths, in my GCSEs. Having completed both quite recently, I remember how difficult they can feel, particularly with the amount of content that must be learnt, and I hope to alleviate this difficulty for my students by focusing on areas they may find confusing and helping them to understand them before memorising them.
I hope to make lessons interesting and informative, focusing on areas the student feels they need more help on and tailoring the lesson to the student's learning style. I will begin lessons going through the topics the student feels they need to focus on, consolidating the knowledge by going through exam questions and content application; when taking my GCSEs and A-Levels I found that exam questions really helped to build my confidence in areas I was unsure on, and they are often repeated in some form so I find they are an extremely useful teaching and learning tool.
In terms of my experience, during my A-Levels I tutored GCSE students in Biology, which allowed me to experience some of the many different styles of learning, and how best to tailor my tutoring to them. I have also completed the Maths Mates volunteer course, which focused on how to teach primary school students basic maths; the educational principles taught to me will prove useful in tutoring.
