Each individual student learns in a different way, there isn’t one method that will work for all. We will have an initial conversation discussing the type of methods the student thinks will benefit them the most when being taught and we will start from there. I focus on building up their weaknesses while also highlighting their strengths so that they can use them to their advantage. I will often use a method of teaching a section of content and then getting the student to answer some questions of a range of difficulty to gather their level of understanding on what they were just taught. I also focus on an element of active recall at the beginning of each lesson to ensure the student is retaining the information they are being taught as well as understanding it as it will make for a successful student. I also teach exam techniques which is crucial for students when they sit exams to ensure they are reaching the maximum amount of marks with the knowledge they have. This is done by for example giving the student tips on what to write when they feel they can’t answer a question to achieve at least some of the marks in the question instead of not attempting it.
I have experience of teaching students with this method and I have seen them thrive. My feedback has been that not only their grades increase but also their confidence in their academic ability as they will understand the content but can also apply the skills I teach them into their other subjects where necessary.
