I have over eight years experience in tutoring accounting students. Some of these students were preparing for professional exams in order to become professional accountants. The others I taught were studying elementary accounting and they also wanted to pass their examinations.
Before we begin studying, it is important that I know the progress of the student and what the student's priority is. Then it eases my work by knowing what needs to be covered and in what period of time. I am informal in my teaching.
I am patient, persevering and determined to see that goals we set with the students are achieved. I am happy when my students do well. It shows that my lessons were a success. I first present the topic for the day and explain the use and principles involved. I relate this to previous lessons which are relevant. I explain as simply as possible giving examples while relating it to the real world examples. Accounting is a practical subject and students need to also solve problems to gain confidence.
The main aim of these lessons is for the student to learn and be able to answer the questions in the examination or solve the accounting problems at their work places. I have found that with the above tutoring methods, my lessons have been a success.
