The shape of lessons is incredibly dependent on the needs of students. They can range from explaining content to perfecting exam technique. As a former tutee, I understand the benefit of a 1 to 1 tuition which is tailored to you. Content will therefore be explained best for the student, whether that be in a geometric, algebraic or anecdotal manner. Technology is an incredibly useful tool: screen sharing software makes communication online far easier, and graphical calculator software makes it easy to picture and interact with geometric problems. If students have specific areas in knowledge which they feel they need to work on, lessons can be initially targeted to these areas. If not going through questions from different topics or a past paper without time pressure can be a useful exercise to identify areas which require attention. Lessons can range from 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on schedules and flexibility, and on whether the student feels they benefit from shorter or longer lessons. While students understanding the content is incredibly important, the final goal is ultimately to do well on an exam so time can be allocated to making sure students have good exam technique. This can range from being able to recognise shortcuts when answering a question; understanding what a question is asking based on prompt words; and including the necessary working out to gain all the method marks. Lessons will cover content in a personalized fashion, using technology as a tool for teaching, and perfecting exam technique.
