I am a qualified Maths teacher with over 10 years experience tutoring from KS3 to A Level, as well as teaching in secondary schools.
I have a calm, patient, and friendly nature, and my biggest aim is to build a student's confidence in the subject, because I find that confidence brings improvements to grades. I do this through use of various textbooks, and online questions, choosing certain parts specifically to push the student past their perceived potential. However, if a student has a preferred way of learning, I ensure this is adhered to as much as possible.
Where relevant, I ensure exam preparation is also completed, using past papers and mark schemes, and lots of discussion on how to best obtain the marks for each question, however I feel that assessment of progress is important regardless, so incorporate this at several stages during the year. Aside from assessing progress, this is also to ensure that weaker topics are picked up on, to become a focus going forward.
I like to put an emphasis on the student having control over the lessons, so if there is a topic they need to work on that day, or if they'd like to move on to something else, I'm happy to do that, as it builds their confidence and independence within the subject, which will prove beneficial to their learning going forward.
Fundamentally, I love my subject, and I love being able to share that with people. I love the ability to challenge people past limits they have set themselves, and show them their potential, whilst watching confidence shine through.
