Frances Darby-Wade

I have always loved mathematics and thrived from helping other understand the work in an easier way, but also with an understanding that allows for good application of the work to various types of questions. I received a very high mark of 97% for mathematics in matric and also did well in university. I am currently studying a part-time MSc in the psychology and neuroscience of mental health at Kings College London as I am passionate about pursuing a career in which I can help children and adolescents thrive beyond academics and in their overall wellbeing. There is an increasing awareness of the importance of mental and physical health with regards to academic and occupational success. I aim to be part of this movement toward a holistic approach to academics.
In my lessons, I like to adapt according to individual needs. Typically, I will go through students' homework or exercise books in order to learn through practice examples. However, I also help students gain a deeper understanding of the theory and rules behind the work so that they can approach broader questions with greater ease and confidence. I like to keep lessons focused, yet also a safe space to feel comfortable to ask any questions (even if they seem silly to them) or ask to go through the work again and more slowly. I also value making these lessons a space for students to reduce stress and feel like they have a mentor that they can turn to whenever they are confused or struggling with certain concepts.
