I personalise all my lessons for the student whilst making sure to create a thorough and practical plan that includes speaking, reading and writing. The first session prioritises getting to know your interests and aims and making an achievable plan together. I think this getting to know time is essential to a productive and joyful learning environment which is why I offer the first session for free. I’ve tutored for students working towards an exam, a holiday, being able to communicate better with a friend or simply because they wanted to learn a new language! My lessons adapt to your goals and availability.

I combine my studies of Linguistics at La Sorbonne Nouvelle in Paris with my current work as performer and theatre-maker to make exciting, expansive and intricate lessons that address everything there is to know about the French language.

I like to use age-tailored games, creative writing prompts, contemporary cultural materials and pertinent readings in order to make the lessons feel alive, exciting and relevant to who you are.
My aim as a tutor is to create an accessible learning environment that welcomes mistakes because that’s when the big learning moments happen. Learning a new language can be challenging, but it should never be stressful or painful! I have worked with many different types of learners with a range of needs and I always incorporate a range of visual and sonic stimuli amongst the potentially heavier and pernickety grammar and language rules.

I’ve worked with children as young as 2, adults as old as 85 and I’ve also worked with whole families. A past student said the following about our lessons together: “practical and pain-free. I was never good at languages in school but the time with Florence would go by so quick. And I can actually speak and understand French with my in-laws now! And my daughter loved the songs and the games which we now do together.”

I had some experience with French but Florence really helped me improve my accent and my conversation skills. I also passed a B2 language exam thanks to her! She made sure my personality was part of the lesson plan and also my hectic life schedule as a new mum. And she’s a good laugh which made the lessons never feel like homework. I would recommend Florence to anyone!
